Trenna & Nick's Wedding at Shepherd's Run in South Kingstown, RI

Having photographed Trenna and Nick in Providence for their engagement and in North Attleboro for their church ceremony last year, the time came last weekend for their second and final “stage two” ceremony at Shepherd’s Run, a beautiful historic venue and vineyard in South Kingstown, RI. As such, this day was almost entirely focused on the fun stuff: getting dressed up, hanging out with friends and family, and eating, drinking, and dancing until the night was over. Shepherd’s Run, once a part of the neighboring Prout School, stands among rows of grapevines on a stretch of land that backs up against the Narrow River just across from Narragansett. Built in 1933 in the Norman Romanesque style and surrounded by gardens designed by famed landscape architect Beatrix Farrand, the venue offers a bit of old world and a bit of new thanks to its lofty vaulted reception space mixed with its slate roof and mossy stone walls. We started off the day exploring the grounds with Trenna and Nick, making use of the beautiful architecture and surrounding landscaping while we had the time. It wouldn’t have been a wedding in New England in the fall of 2023 without a bit of rain though, and sure enough about a third of the way into the day the skies opened enough to warrant a last minute change of plans. Thankfully the space that would later host dinner and dancing was available to use as a cozier ceremony space, and things carried on all the same.

All that being said, there wasn’t much that was going to dampen the mood for these two. Maybe it was the fact that they were already legally married, maybe they liked the drama the stormy skies provided, or maybe they’re just the sort of people that take life as it comes, rain or no rain. Whatever the case their spirits remained high and celebratory, and we could tell that more than anything else they were just grateful to be among their people. The crowd at last year’s ceremony was smaller, mostly close family (and some of Trenna’s students!), so the goal for this wedding really was to get goofy, eat drink and be merry, and have fun. Between the 30 some odd graduates of the same highschool Trenna and Nick went to showing up and about as many from both of their respective colleges, folks were ready to dance the night away (and even sneak away into the rain to cool off when it got too warm on the dancefloor). For a day that was, again, changed at the last moment due to inclement weather, everything went so smoothly for these two. It was so lovely to document this final chapter in their marriage with them, and lovelier still to witness them bask in that achievement.
