Angela & Adam's Coastal Micro-Wedding at Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown, RI
Earlier this year we photographed a wedding at the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate for Anna and Mikayla, and while we were covering dancing we were pulled aside by a guest who was interested to see which film cameras we were shooting with. That guest was was Adam, current co-owner of SK Grimes, a.k.a. “the photographer’s machinist,” and his work is dedicated to creating and fabricating solutions for folks in need of very particular pieces for their cameras. He slipped us a business card and said we should come by the shop sometime if we were interested, and while we poured over his instagram we didn’t necessarily expect to hear from him again so soon. A few months later he and his fiance Angela reached out with a last minute plan to have a small ceremony at one of their (and our!) favorite places in Rhode Island: Beavertail Lighthouse. We’ve gone here for engagement sessions, family portraits, and the oft-needed escape to nature during our busy season, but their plans to bring their families oceanside was our first actual wedding there.
When we arrived we found Adam roaming around and making sure things were in order before the ceremony started while nephews and nieces wrangled kites in the ocean breeze. A small semi-circle of chairs was set along the cliffside, Angela’s brother played his acoustic guitar while folks took their seats, and Angela stepped out of the RV she was hiding away in to start the ceremony. Their vows spoke of finding each other a bit later in life, about how they’d mutually lost a bit of hope in dating, and how from the first date they clicked in ways neither of them had experienced before. As the waves lapped against the rocks just steps away from them these two, surrounded by their people, married one another bathed in warm October light.
We explored with them along the water and by the lighthouse for a spell before packing into our car again to head back to Providence to cover a bit of their dinner at Bayberry Garden (another mutually beloved spot). A bunch more friends joined the party there, having signature cocktails and taking in the cool early evening air on the patio before heading inside to eat. For a plan that came together at the eleventh hour, we found Angela and Adam’s wedding afternoon and evening charming and absolutely suited to them as a couple. Witnessing them so happy and complete with one another was both an honor and our pleasure.
