Jen & Justin's Coastal Wedding at Mount Hope Farm in Bristol, RI
Jen and Justin also live here in Providence and we first met them last year on the east side of town at their community garden plot for their engagement shoot. It’s always a particularly exciting thing to get to photograph in our own city and from the moment we met them we knew we were going to get along great and make some fun photos together on their wedding day. Mount Hope Farm is an incredibly ‘Rhode Island’ venue and feels every bit as special as any we’ve seen since moving here almost eight years ago. The property sprawls away from the main road towards the coast, its long driveway to the ceremony site affording guests peeks of the Mount Hope bridge connecting Bristol to Aquidneck Island as they make their way towards the water. Cedar trees dot the landscape and lend the cove a natural windbreak resulting in a serene calm as waves lap at the rocky beach. It felt otherworldly in its isolation and focused the attention on the celebration at hand in a really beautiful and unique way.
We’d been looking forward to this wedding day for a long time - partly because of the incredibly sweet, intentional, and loving people Jen and Justin are, and partly because it’s been just long enough since working with Ayla of Shade Studio to forget how mind bogglingly surreal her floral designs are in person. Jen asked for summery texture and color and got it in spades; dramatically weighty and whispy at the same time and full of character. Justin’s twin sister Sara, who first introduced him to Jen, officiated the wedding ceremony crowned with florals and Jen’s aunt toasted the couple, resulting in big laughs and maybe a happy tear or two. The weather, the people, and the details came together in a special way at this wedding and we had such a lovely time watching these two be surrounded by the love they so clearly put out into the world. Between Jen and Justin’s wedding vows that left everyone (us included) with misty eyes, the casual elegance of the Rhode Island coast in late summer, and the live band and ensuing dance party this day felt less like a goodbye to the season and more like a celebration of it.
