Lindsay & Zachary's Cozy Industrial Wedding at Waterfire Arts Center in Providence, RI
As we move through October and prepare for winter we’re increasingly grateful to work closer to our home here in Providence, and Lindsay and Zachary’s plan to transform a nearby event space into something entirely unique could not have been more local to us. These two live in Brooklyn but Lindsay is from Rhode Island, making the return to Providence a fitting part of their wedding day, and our time with them started at Lindsay’s childhood home where both her and Zachary spent time getting ready with friends and family. The weather was classically October with partly gray skies and temps in the upper fifties, and from the moment Lindsay and Zachary saw one another in the backyard they were beaming. Lindsay’s dress was custom made from her mom’s wedding dress while Zachary wore a custom vintage inspired tux with roomy pleated trousers and oversized lapels. Individually they looked incredible and side by side the pairing was so classy.
A short twenty minute drive back over to Providence later, we all arrived to find the Waterfire Arts Center looking like we had never seen it before. Em Devaud (a favorite local planner and absolute event magician whose work we’ve had the pleasure of documenting before) really pulled out all of the stops to make what is a truly blank canvas into two dramatically different hemispheres. The first leaned into the drama of the high ceilings, letting the space and atmosphere draw focus to the chuppah at one end while industrial detailing and dramatic black velvet curtains highlighted the bar at the other. On the other side of those curtains was the dining and dancing space, kept dark and moody save for the chandelier bouquet hanging low from the tall ceilings above a checkered dance floor.
Lindsay and Zachary floated joyfully through the evening, smiling ear to ear as they witnessed the results of months and months of planning for the first time. As people filled the building we heard plenty of oo’s and ahh’s and we can personally say we’ve never photographed in a space quite like it. The ceremony was dramatic, set against ceiling high windows that allowed the waning daylight to filter through as Lindsay walked down the aisle to meet Zachary all while some musical friends performed a duet. Cocktail hour was sprawling and romantic under the warm lighting coming primarily from the bar, which functioned as the central hub for guests as they crowded around it and ordered signature cocktails. As Lindsay and Zachary prepared to join the reception the curtain parted dramatically, inviting guests to transition to dinner and take their seats around long candlelit tables flanking the dance floor. Lindsay and Zachary’s entrance was soundtracked by another trio of friends before the Protege band took over and really kicked things into another gear. The energy level stayed insanely high for the rest of the evening between line dances with parents and a lively horah before open dancing commenced and it was such a fun scene. By the time we were heading out folks were glistening underneath the chandeliers and Lindsay and Zachary were glowing, positively drenched in the love of their people and so, so happy.
