Katy & Mike's Coastal Wedding at Oceancliff in Newport, RI

With all of the traveling around we do for weddings it sure is nice to work close to home every once in a while. Katy and Mike’s wedding afforded us that luxury along with others - perhaps most noteworthy being our first venture out onto the water since moving to Rhode Island a handful of years ago. While Katy’s family is from here, these two currently live in NYC where they both work in the healthcare industry, and returning to Rhode Island for their wedding made sense after the pandemic changed their original plans. Despite that shift, the wedding they planned at one of Rhode Island’s many historic oceanside venues, Oceancliff, came together beautifully. The always unpredictable weather in this state held steady for the majority of the day and the cloud-veiled sunlight provided us with the kind of light every photographer hopes for on a wedding day. Incorporating traditional Jewish elements into their ceremony and celebrating with a lively hora to kick off the reception made for an atmosphere that honored their cultural roots while maintaining a lively energy that kept folks on their feet during this mid-day affair. Photographing these two throughout Newport - first at at Hammett’s hotel downtown, then at Oceancliff, and finally on the schooner Aurora - was a treat that made us once again realize how lucky we are to do this for a living. It’s not often we get to photograph at a venue and then see it from the water, so we’re happy to say we’ve checked that off our bucket list.
