Krissy & Alex's Early Fall Wedding in Newbury, NH

When Krissy and Alex initially reached out to us about their plans for an intimate, romantically Marie Antoinette (of the Sofia Coppola variety) inspired wedding at a historic farmhouse at the foot of Mount Sunapee in southern New Hampshire, we had a hard time concealing our eagerness to learn more. We are often drawing from our favorite films for creative inspiration, and to hear that these two would be doing just that in order to craft a day that felt like an experience for their guests was incredibly exciting.

Krissy and Alex both live and work in/around Portland, ME and Krissy (on top of being a fellow small business owner) is an avid collector of things. As it applies to wedding planning, Krissy’s affinity for colorful antique glassware, finely glazed tea cups, and dramatic candelabra would all be worth the effort of collecting in helping to bring her dream to life. Guests were all welcomed to pick a cup of their choosing for the evening, a nice touch that elevated the decor. Their selection of venue, a renovated farm property at the foot of Mount Sunapee, afforded them a blank slate of sorts to transform into exactly what they envisioned. The building itself didn’t need much decoration thanks to its beautiful renovation, high ceilings, rugged stone exterior, and grand views of the mountainside. The adjacent reception space, however, was where their creativity ran wild and what resulted was an incredibly lush, relaxed but highly curated ‘interior’ that encouraged conversation over candlelight, relaxation on crushed velvet couches, and dining on incredibly local fare surrounded by luxurious floral arrangements.

The first week of autumn is a special time to have an outdoor wedding, something K + A were keenly aware of. As Saturday approached and we all kept an eye on what has been a historically unforgiving forecast this season, we were pleasantly surprised to find that we’d lucked into having a relatively clear day. Haze courtesy of more wild fires to the north cut the harshest of the light that day and, combined with the weather moving around the mountain in the distance, Krissy and Alex had some of the best light we’ve seen all year for their wedding day. The ceremony by a stone wall draped with flowers and greenery was bathed in an ethereal glow that illuminated them from behind while they spoke their vows to one another and guests blew bubbles as they exited. After a candlelit dinner and toasts a dance party absolutely erupted and things got wild with nearly every guest on the dance floor. It felt like they absolutely met, maybe even exceeded, their own expectations for their wedding day, and documenting two folks reveling in that success surrounded by their closest loved ones was a beautiful experience.
