Grace & Jack's Downtown Wedding at The Tower in Boston, MA
Grace and Jack may be two of the most calm and collected people we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. When we met them earlier this year in a favorite spot on the Rhode Island coast for their engagement session and asked them how planning had been going they very casually said it was going great. To quote Grace from our first phone call, “I don’t feel stressed at all because no one is making us do this, we actually just want to get married.” That energy continued to the wedding day, thanks in part to a timeline that kept every part of their urban day-plan within four minutes walking distance of one another, but also because Grace and Jack both exude quiet confidence in their decisions. The Tower, a venue moments from the Boston Public Garden and Common, is a space that’s lived many lives. An armory, a library, a restaurant, and now an intriguing new wedding venue it’s definitely unlike anywhere we’ve photographed before. These two told us they enjoyed that about it; its distinct architectural spaces and contrast to its surrounding environment within Boston were appealing, and we all seemed to appreciate its natural spookiness.
The wedding day started around the corner where both Grace and Jack got ready with their dearest friends and family. The plan was to finish getting dressed, meet up in the gardens for first looks and some photos, and then walk back to The Tower to arrive in plenty of time for the rest of the evening to take place there. The weather cooperated and everything seemed to hum along very naturally, even with an unexpected stop at an ice cream truck for a quick cone pre-ceremony. What we first took to be good luck we quickly realized was actually the result of Grace’s careful planning, and her attention to detail continued to impress as the day went on. Guests were invited to experience the rest of the evening across the three main floors of the venue, all connected by a grand staircase, utilizing each for specific parts of the evening. Ceremony at the top, cocktail hour at the bottom, dinner in the middle, and back up top again for a roaring dance party. It was a lovely way to both see the space in all its glory as well as neatly partition it to make the guest experience feel fluid. Grace’s fine taste and knack for planning shown throughout the night, from custom bar signs to florals that complimented the formal spaces to horn-players leading guests from dinner to dancing to fresh cannolis on the dance floor, and it was incredible to see how strong their vision for the day was.
Grace and Jack stormed onto the dance floor and performed a strong, highly choreographed first dance to cheers from their families and friends and the energy never really dipped from there. Ripcord (shout out, you guys always kill it) kept the people moving, blew our minds with their musicianship, and performed with not one but two VIP guest singers (shout out, you guys also killed it), to even more cheering still. It’s hard to describe that feeling of watching two people so completely enveloped by the love of their dearest people. It’s tough to write words to adequately describe the joy and jubilation two people feel when a day they spent so long planning themselves not only finally arrives but goes off without a hitch. It’s all we can do to show up, pay attention, and try our best to depict those feelings in a way that’s honest, and Grace and Jack and their people couldn’t have made our job easier.
